Short C.V.

Since April 1999 Jürgen Kähler is Professor of Economics at the University Erlangen-Nuremberg. He studied Journalism at the Cologne School – Institute of Journalism and the same time Economics and the University of Cologne. He also received a Diploma in Social Science Data Analysis from the University of Essex (UK). After his studies he worked as a University Assistant at the University of Cologne (in the field of public finance) and at the University of Mannheim (in the field of econometrics). From 1991 to 1994 he was employed by the Centre for European Economic Research (Zentrum fuer Europaeische Wirtschaftsforschung, ZEW) where he set up the research department “International Financial Markets and Financial Management”. After that he was Lecturer in Finance and Statistics and Course Director of the MBA Financial Management at the University of Exeter for five years. In 1995 he received a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science for his thesis on “Stochastic Models of Exchange-Rate Dynamics and Their Implications for the Pricing of Foreign-Currency Options”. Prof. Kaehler is a Research Associate at the ZEW. He was Visiting Professor at the University of Exeter and the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Durban, South Africa).

Applications of econometric models in economics and finance, monetary economics, international economics and the US economy.

Current Research Project: Causes and Consequences of an Increasing Import Share in Exports (with Dr. Claudia Stirböck, Deutsche Bundesbank)
